I am very glad I chose to take this class. I did not know anything about cameras like aperture, shutter speed, or how to work manual mode. When I first got the camera in my hands, I felt like I was just taking pictures of anything that appeared to be "pretty". I took all of my pictures in the automatic mode and didn't know if the angle I was taking them at worked and if it conveyed the message of the photo. I definitely took some horrible pictures (especially when I tried light painting) but after some practice and figuring out the tips and tricks of the camera, I was able to create some really cool photos. Here are some of my worst pictures:Obviously, the pictures above have terrible lighting and are very distracting for all the wrong reasons. By taking this class, I have learned how to use the flash the right way, how to avoid shadows, how I can edit photos in photoshop, and how to get the best results when doing light painting. Now, instead of taking meaningless snapshots, I take well-thought out photographs of scenes that I position carefully. I know how to get the best lighting available by readjusting my subject and making it brighter (or changing the levels in photoshop). I also know how vitalizing light can eliminate shadows and create a brighter image. I have learned about many tools in photoshop like the clone stamp, history brush, painting brush, quick selection tool, and the magic wand selection tool. I also know how to change the levels, brightness, vibrance, and colors (hue and saturation) in photoshop. I am very glad that I took this class and developed skills in photography which I will use in the future. Here are some of my BEST photos:

For this assignment, we had to take portrait pictures of a subject outside of a studio with a bounce card. The bounce card would reflect natural light onto shaded places. The other picture we had to take had to be taken in a studio setting with specific lights on either side of the subject's face and behind their head. I thought this assignment was useful because it is important to know how to take portraits. This assignment was a little hard for me because of the lighting that was available and sometimes it is hard to angle the bounce card to completely eliminate the shadows. Here are my portrait shots: The picture on the left is a non-studio picture and the picture on the left was taken in the studio.
For our last assignment I came up with my own topic. I chose to do more pictures with "dashes of color" because I found the tutorial we did earlier very unique and fun. I took a variety of pictures and made them black and white. After changing the entire picture's colors, I went back with the selection tool and erased the "black and white effect" to make the color come back to life. I hope you enjoy these pictures: Best Photo ISO: 320 Aperture: f 3.4 Shutter Speed: 1/30 Editing: Changed to black and white, used selection tool to erase a certain part of an image and bring back the color OthersReflection: Overall, I really liked this assignment. I like to be able to go out and take pictures of whatever I think will look nice (especially when there are vibrant colors involved). I really enjoying looking at my surroundings to find settings with colors that would pop so I could make that color show through a black and white photograph.
For this assignment, the idea is to take some pictures that best showcase the meaning of the photo through black and white. Here is my best picture: ISO: 160 Aperture: f 4.0 Shutter Speed: 1/50 Editing: I only changed it to black and white and adjusted the levels Others:Reflection: I thought this assignment was pretty fun! I liked that it was broad and that I could take a picture of anything that would look better in black and white. The only issues I had with this assignment was trying to get my dog sit still, but besides that, it was super fun!
For this assignment, we had to choose a word and define it using three pictures that relate to it. Using tools like the eraser, clone stamp, quick selection, crop, and background colors, the end product should express the exact definition of a word. Here are the words I chose: For the other half of the assignment, we had to create visual puns. This means we could only use pictures to crack a joke or make a little riddle. I hope you enjoy these simple puns and are able to figure them out: Reflection:I thought this assignment was pretty fun! It was fun to be creative and break up phrases or words into pictures. The only obstacle I faced with this project was trying to come up with visual puns that haven't been used before.
For this assignment, I chose to do light painting. With light painting, the light is supposed to accentuate the subject of the photo. I tried to have the light make my subject and photo more interesting in the following photos: Best Photo:ISO: 400 Aperture: f 5.6 Shutter Speed: 30 seconds Editing: I adjusted the levels, brightness, vibrance and saturation of this photo to make the colors of the light pop and have a bigger impact to the viewer. Other PhotosOverall, I thought this assignment was very hard. It was kind of fun to create images in the dark and see what they would come up as, but it was frustrating most of the time. It was really hard to get the right brightness and match up the light from where I started it and ended it. It was also hard to get my subject to stay still or have the same face throughout the entire 30 seconds of the picture.
Description: This assignment was about finding tutorials online and trying them on our own. These videos or tutorials were step by step instructions of how to use certain tools in photoshop. There were many videos on how to blend photos together, make them look like a painting or sketch, and how to break them up into parts. Here are some of the photos I photoshopped: (some have links with them)
Reflection:
I learned a lot from doing this assignment. This assignment taught me how to use tools like pixelate, blur, tricks with vibrance, saturation, levels, brightness, and so many more. I didn't find this assignment that difficult to do because it was fun most of the time, but there were some hard times when tools would not work. For the fourth photography assignment I chose to take pictures of pets/animals. The goal of taking these pictures was to emulate the pets' personalities through the photos. Although I do not have any pets of my own at the moment, I had the chance to take pictures of my friend's pets. By taking these photos, I tried to mirror the sassy personality of the cat, family-friendly dog, and the slightly scared gecko. BEst Photo:ISO: 400 Aperture: f 3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/60 Editing: I cropped this photo, changed the levels and brightness to make colors pop more, and clone stamped the glare out of the cat's eyes Other Photos:This assignment was very hard for me. It was difficult to keep the pets still and have them "pose" for the camera. My camera was also not cooperating at this time which made this project even harder. My camera's flash would go off and make the colors look weird, but then when it didn't go off the shutter speed had to be very slow which translated to blurry pictures. It was also hard to get them to be in front of a nice background to take pictures. Although this assignment was hard, it was also fun for me to take pictures of adorable animals.
For this assignment we had to take multiple pictures of one subject in different areas of the room. Once these pictures were opened in photoshop, we were able to use the lasso tool to cut them out of one layer and link it to the other layers to have all of the "multiple me" people appear. This project required photo stacking and lots of creativity. Here are some pictures I complied of my friends to complete this assignment... Overall, I think this assignment was pretty easy. It was fun to take lots of different pictures of my friends and it was easy to put together in photoshop. The only struggles I faced were keeping objects on the photos consistent and making sure people aren't walking by or interfering because they could have messed up the shots.
For my third photography assignment, I chose to take pictures of people! With this topic, the main idea is to capture the personality of someone in these photos. I took pictures of my grandma and friends and tried to display their personalities through laughter, love, and smiles. Best Photo:ISO: 400 Aperture: f 3.5 Shutter Speed: 1/800 Editing: I adjusted the levels and brightness to make her smile and emotion more visible. Other photos:This assignment is definitely my favorite, so far. I love to take pictures of my family and friends and see their faces light up. I chose the picture of my grandma as my best image because she doesn't like to look at pictures of herself because she doesn't like her smile but I know that she was wearing her true smile in the picture I took and that she'll love it. I thought this topic was relatively easy because the portrait setting on the camera helps with aperture, shutter speed and ISO a lot.
